Honestly, I love my phone [a year later].
So, I had an older Samsung Tracfone Sky, but it was aging, really bogging down, about out of internal storage [for the life of me, I can’t figure out why Android can’t get its act together and let you use a Micro-SD card to “extend” storage, but that’s neither here nor there].Anyway, did a ton of research on updated Tracfones, and settled on this one, since it’s got a ton of storage compared to my older phone, supports 5G, has a nice screen, fingerprint reader, decent cameras, etc.For my purposes, after a year of use, it’s absolutely great. Love it. Have had nearly no problems with it, and most of those [text messages not coming through timely, primarily], were resolved with a quick restart. It’s nice and responsive, whereas my old phone was laggy and started freezing up toward the end [whether due to full storage or just being old and unable to handle newer apps that required more memory to run, I don’t know].So, yeah, a year later, I’m happy with it. I was sad to lose the “Triple Minute for Life” of the Sky. However, the new 1-year Smartphone plan basically doe everything the old TMFL program did, and maybe even a bit more [I used to basically buy a $150-$200 1-yr card and triple the minutes from 1500-4500, triple the data & texts; now I just buy the 1-yr $200 smartphone plan and it’s unlimited minutes & texts and like 12GB or 24GB of data, something like that. Which is more than the like 3-4GB I’d get from TMFL].Anyway, it all seems to have worked out nicely. 🙂 Quite happy with it. There may be newer models out, but this one is a pretty good little workhorse for the things I use it for and I like its snappiness/responsiveness and overall quality.

Mobile Data does work
Review for: TracFone Samsung Galaxy A42 5G, 128GB, Black – Prepaid Smartphone (Locked)Two easy solutions to ensure your mobile data roam as it should. The main solution is to update the phone’s software manually. (Not updating the mobile apps won’t do anything for the mobile data.) I had to update it four times before being able to use my mobile data with no issue.Tap buttons within the yellow boxes, as shown in the photos.- Step 1: Go to phone settings (cog wheel)- Step 2: Scroll all the way down and tap on “Software update”- Step 3: Tap on “Download and install”- Step 4: Near the bottom of the screen should be a button to install an update; you’ll repeat this at least four times, causing the phone to restart a few times, which is normal. Possibly have more major updates as time passes whenever one receives this phone model.Afterward, this should solve the mobile data issue.(Initially, I downloaded all the app updates, but the mobile data still didn’t work. Later updating the phone’s software four times did the mobile data work.)The second solution is turning off Tracfone’s Network Optimizer. It may affect the phone’s ability to data roam, but to be safe, I turn it off to have less interference with the data roaming.Tap buttons within the yellow boxes, as shown in the photos.- Step 1: Download the Tracfone app(I know, “Why isn’t it preinstalled since it’s called and locked to Tracfone?” I don’t know, but yes, that is the first step)- Step 2: Connect and log into your Tracfone account.- Step 3: Go to settings in the blue upper left corner with three horizontal lines; it will show you the side menu.- Step 4: Tap “Network Settings”- Step 5: Tap the checkbox for “Disable Network Optimizer”That should stop Tracfone from interfering with the phone’s mobile data roaming.Bonus, if not obvious, if your old Tracfone had data and service and you successfully transferred your leftover data, that should be enough to allow you to data roaming.BUT if you are a brand new person to Tracfone, you must buy service days that should come with data. When the data runs out, you will not be able to use mobile data roaming unless you buy more data, which you can do through the Tracfone mobile app, website, or purchase physical cards at your local store and redeem the code on your phone or website connected to your Tracfone account.ALSO, if you still have data but your service days run out, you won’t be able to use mobile data then as well. I can confirm that this has happened to me before, so the more you know. So you have to buy service days again via phone, website, or in-store cards. But if all else fails, it might just be a problem with the phone, and have to be returned to receive a new one within 30 days.I upgraded from the 2020 Tracfone LG Rebel 4 4G.I was nervous about getting this phone since some reviewers said they had trouble getting data to roam. Thankfully I am a bit tech-savvy and have the common sense to troubleshoot every possible problem until I get it to work. I’m so glad this was easy to fix by updating the phone’s software and turning off the network optimizer. The phone is not the problem; the old software that needs many updates is the problem (not updating apps, that’s separate and not the same for those who might accidentally not know that.)So far impressed with the larger screen, fast response time, detailed pictures, longer battery life, ample internal storage, and micro sd card installation was easy (I have small, steady hands).I hope this was helpful to anyone else who was worried about the mobile data roaming issue. If those reviewers held on the phone long enough to auto-update the phone, they would have eventually had their problem fixed; it would have just taken longer, is all.Mobile data roaming is essential to me since I use UberEats to make money.

I like it. But the Uninstallable bloatware is an irritant.
Man, it requires permissions for anything you do and with apps. Windows phonelink took too long because it wanted copious permissions. I had to hunt down every one on my own. No prompts, and it’s there to turn on. I like Samsung products, but I stay out of echo systems. Boy, they want you in theirs real bad. I could do without all their uninstallable apps because they are a nuisance. I had an A54. Samsung way back and it didn’t have so many annoyances. The good thing is the number of good apps it has available. The phone layout could be more straightforward. It wouldn’t take some of the data from the phone I had before. It’s a good phone. Spectacular if you compare it to the 1980″s. So despite the complaints, this is a miracle in hand.

PHONE IS USELESS
I ordered a Samsung phone that was locked in to Tracfone service because I have been using Tracfone service and have been happy with the service. When the phone was delivered I was away so I was not able to contact Tracfone to activate service until later in August. And that’s when the NIGHTMARE began. I worked with two differents representatives for 5 HOURS on August following their directions making sure the sim card was inserted properly and in spite of their efforts activation could not be achieved. I finally asked if we could resume efforts the next day. AND AGAIN , after 2 MORE HOURS activation could not be achieved and although this third representative was willing to continue trying I had had it and chose to QUIT the effort because they kept saying they were unable to recognize the phone. It looks great and fits well into the phone case I also ordered but it is USELESS. In order to have a working phone I had to continue to renew Tracfone service on my old phone which I had hoped to replace. I have been so upset with this entire transaction and although I expect Amazon could not have anticipated my difficulties I feel that I am entitled to full refund. I have the Samsung phone and case available for returning to Amazon. Please advise how I maydo that.
