Stephen Champion –
Sweet little router board
It may be an older generation, but this is still an excellent and cost effective board for a firewall / router. There are some less expensive options, but none with a BMC.
I used memory leftover from upgrading laptops a few years ago, bought a cheap mSATA board to install Fedora, and picked up a compact ITX case. Just get one big enough to take the ATX backplate.
The four on board ethernets ports makes it easy to separate iot, desktop, and guest networks, while leaving the single expansion slot open if I need it later. Very lower power consumption means very low heat dissipation. With a BMC making maintenance a breeze, and no fans to clog with dust, the system does well in a small, difficult to access closet.

Excellent router/firewall board
Low power usage, ECC ram support, modern microarchitecture (got AES-NI and those other fancy instructions), Intel NICs! So many of these boards fail and have Realtek nics, which makes BSD sad. Running opnsense on mine for about a year with nothing but joy.

Für Pfsense Firewall eingesetzt – läuft ohne Probleme – kaum Wärmeentwicklung bei 6W TDP – mit IPMI Zugang – im Supermicro 1HE 19â Rackgehäuse einfach perfekt.

This board has 4 network interfaces. For an unknown reason, under high traffic load, the OS issues a watchdog timeout and the connectivity drops.
The bottom left LAN port has no problem. The other 3 suffer from this problem. The only solution then is to reboot.
Tested with pfSense and OpenBSD. According to other owners of this board on the Internet, there is the same problem on Linux.
The motherboard was sent to Supermicro for fixing. They reportedly repaired it but the board came back untouched. No report was written. And the problem still exists. After second complaint to the seller (GTM Technology Europe), no answer. We are now stuck with a malfunctionning and useless motherboard.
