Very powerful despite being battery powered
Works great, more powerful than expected. Make sure the screws are tightened for the protector. I lost the screw that held mine on.

Time tested as a reliable string trimmer.
I purchased the multi tool version that included the weed trimmer, hedge trimer and cultivator four years ago. All of the tools have been used extensively as a home owner, not a landscaper. I have added new batteries in that time, but the tool continues to work s new. I purchased the same tool, but only the string trimer attachment for use in our small church cemetery. Additional batteries when needed are easily available online or Home Depot.

    Great so far
So far we’ve really liked this. It is lightweight and it’s okay to maneuver. The balance is off a little bit I think from the weight in the back and the length of the trimmer. But since it’s pretty lightweight it’s okay. We don’t have a huge yard so we’re able to buzz around it on one battery and then use that battery to also do some edging. The string trimmer is easy to load once you figure it out, I did buy the edger attachment which works but definitely requires more power than this thing can produce. But for the string trimmer definitely works really good. The to dispense string works really good. When you push the trigger, it’s not like a gas trimmer that immediately revs up, it does have a little bit of build up. The first few times I used it it bugged me but I’m used to that delay now since it’s only a second or two it’s not the end of the world.

Good purchase, but I didn’t know what I was getting.
I ordered this trimmer because I was tired of my also owned gas “Weedeater”. When I printed out the receipt, it read “used – nearly new”! I thought I had bought a new one. I didn’t know what to expect when it was delivered. It came in an unmarked carton from “American PH”, with the separate items placed individually in it. The “Quick Assembly Guide” was missing, and when I went on-line to source one, none of the numbers I had matched those on the website. I then figured out the assembly myself. As for the condition of the trimmer; it did look nearly new, although there were “dig marks” on the insert end of the front power head shaft. I learned later, it was also missing the short plastic item used as a “hanger”, as well as some additional line which comes with a Ryobi “new” purchase. Beyond that, all was well. Later, when I was able to use the trimmer, it performed better than I had expected. It handled easily, and the weight was not excessive. I trimmed tall grass around a 120 by 40 foot pond and the charged battery lasted that long. In the end, so far I’m impressed with my “new” trimmer, and pleased I bought it. I only wish the purchase details vs what, and how I received it had been more complete. Be fully aware of what you’re really ordering.

DID NOT WORK – SOMETHING WRONG WITH MOTOR
Bought for my husband for Christmas. He went to use it today and would not work. He tried the battery it came with and another battery that also fit. Neither one worked. We have a lot of RYOBI tools so we have interchangeable batteries. According to Amazon , it is too late to return-last day was 1/31/25. We will go directly to store to buy anything else like this since Amazon will not stand behind what they sell.

    No more gasoline issues
I have used the 2 stroke Ryobi string trimmers for years, but after a year or two I had to replace the fuel lines and/or the carb would have problems not allowing it to start. Buy a new head and repeat until I picked up this 40V electric version. Now just snap on a charged battery and go to work. Its only about 80% as powerful as the gas version at full throttle and it does not have the same runtime as the gas version so I have to stop at some point and charge the battery to finish weed-eating and sidewalk edging. I had the sidewalk edger attachment from my gas trimmer. It fits.

    Great power.
This is a little heavy for the wife, but fine for me. Don’t like gas engines or extension cords. Exactly what i wanted. Added an inexpensive universal edger that works flawlessly.

A robust, well powered trimmer. This is no toy.
Let me preface this by saying I’ve owned a variety of gas, corded and battery trimmers over the years. My other battery operated trimmer is a Worx 20V and has taken care of most light work. The Ryobi is a 40V so it’s not a fair comparison, but comparatively, it’s a beast. The battery lasts several times longer with the same lawn and edging work. Running nearly continuously, I blast the many weeds out of the cracks of a 50ft driveway, trim the edges of a 1/2 acre lawn, clear the footpath, trim around the gardens, and have made only a small dent on the battery. The power is not quite up to most gas powered trimmers, but is at least as powerful as the smallest of them. I gave up on mixing the gas/oil, draining the tank after use, winterizing, etc. In the end, most won’t reliably start anyway. I love plugging in the battery and trimming in seconds, all without giving the neighbors a headache. My only beef is that the unit is a bit heavy; something expected with a larger battery. It feels like my gas models but has no shoulder strap. A half hour into use, my hands are really feeling it. I’ll put two belts together and fashion something that works. All in all, I’m very pleased with the Ryobi trimmer and already own their 40V blower. I think I’ll begin a collection of tools that share the same battery. Cheers!
