Description

Makita has a legacy of innovation in the cordless impact driver category, and the 18V LXT® Brushless 4-Speed Impact Driver (XDT20) sets new standards. The XDT20 offers 4-speed power selections (0-1,100/ 0-2,100/ 0-3,200/ 0-3,600 RPM & 0-1,100/ 0-2,600/ 0-3,600/ 0-3,800 IPM) which provides precise fastening control for a wide range of applications. The Impact Driver features Assist Mode (A-mode) which helps eliminate “”screw cam-out”” and “”cross threading”” by driving at low speed until tightening begins. It also features two Tightening Modes (T-mode) for faster tightening of self-drilling screws in thick or thin gauge metal that helps prevent damage to the screw or workpiece. The XDT20 delivers industry-leading performance in a compact and ergonomic design. The impact driver combines power, speed, and precision. A one-touch 4-speed power selector button is positioned on the rear of the impact driver, which enables one-handed speed changes. It includes reverse rotation auto-stop mode which stops rotation and impact when the fastener is loosened adequately to help prevent over-loosening and dropped fasteners. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT® system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion batteries. Makita 18V LXT® batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is a communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging, and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT® and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Silky-smooth trigger compared to my old XDT14.
Please do not hesitate to buy this driver if you are on Makita batteries. My old XDT14 was a workhorse but was giving me troubles even after replacing the trigger. The ring light is phenomenal. I’ve already used it as a flashlight a few times — when you set the direction slider to the middle, locked position, a gentle trigger tap acts as a flashlight (torch for all you Brits) switch. The button placement is simply better on the back. The centered battery isn’t really noticeable. The price is right here too! $144 almost sounded too good to be true. This thing is legit and it is good.

The ring light is worth it
I got the XDT20Z as a long overdue upgrade to my 15 year old LXDT04. Comparing the two:- The new unit is surprisingly small; the new driver is about 1 inch shorter which is super helpful in cramped spaces.- The brushless motor on the XDT20Z is so smooth, makes the whole thing feel like a major upgrade compared to the old brushed one. The XDT20Z has something like 10% more torque, but honestly even the old one was hardly ever bogged down.- The different modes on the new one are a little confusing at first, but I’m looking forward to seeing if they can be useful (especially to prevent cam-out). Honestly though, I doubt I’ll ever remember to set the “Reverse Rotation Auto-Stop Mode” when it would be helpful.- The LED light is fantastic. I always appreciated the tiny light on the old driver, even though it was pretty sad. It was always annoying that the bit cast a shadow right where I needed light – the new one with a ring light solves that wonderfully. You can even just use this driver as a flashlight.Minus one star because the product was shipped without a box, and no manual. It was cheaper than usual, but this should be clearly stated in the product description.

Another well made well balanced tool
Definitely like this impact better than my xdt16 which is the one on the left in pic. I haven’t used it but the specs are the same in that aspect. The led ring is great, much better lighting and dont have to worry about the little leds getting destroyed on the side like the xdt16. The battery is pushed back a little more and the settings buttons are on the back, i like this much better! Its actually smaller then the xdt16!Nice job makita!

    Lordy what a driver!
This has to be the most perfect tool ever created. Makita has done it again. I love the capability, I really love the LED light ring, omg. I love that the settings changes are done at the rear of the tool. This is the perfect impact driver.

    Top notch!!
Great addition to replace my 9-year-old Makita impact, which still works by the way it’s just a little bit slower these new ones are much quicker and have some more power nowadays. the plastic nose broke off over the light on my second use, definitely user error as I was screwing down a lag I slipped off and nailed it which is going to happen when you were Construction hopefully the ring light holds up with that piece gone seems to be pretty solid. overall I’m very happy with this impact and its functions and battery life.

    Good impact
I’ve owned the td173 Japanese model for awhile and really liked it, this American version is just as good

Great price, even Japanese model from Ebay.
Love the front ring light and mode to fasten the self drilling screw which I didn’t have it on my old xdt13

    Works great for torque screws
Works great. A lot more power compared to the old model. Hopefully this one won’t brake in a year compared to the last model before this that gave out just a little over a year after I purchased it
